Welcome
to Excelling with Excel
Course Outline
This class
is offered by West Valley Community College.
For registration information contact Admissions at West Valley Community
College 408-741-2001 or register online.
After you have enrolled, e-mail me.
This class is conducted entirely online. The class will be open for you
to begin on the first day of school.
What will you learn in this class?
At the end of the class you will be so-o-o-o-o-o good at Excel.
You will do many things. You will start with the basics of Excel, move
through the basics, do charts, play with a database and then explore the
more advanced features of Excel.
Lesson Assignment Instructions:
NOTE: be familiar with these instructions to obtain your assignments:
You will have projects (assignments) with each of the lessons. These projects will demonstrate
your knowledge and understanding of what you have learned. After you have
explored the web lessons and have reached the "Review" page:
- Click on the Projects-Timeline link in the menu.
You swill find a list of associated projects.
- Click on the project that goes with the lesson you have explored.
- Click the download button on the project web page and you will
receive the project in an Excel spreadsheet.
- When you complete the assignment, email it to me and I will check it
and offer comments.
I am available by email and phone
to help along the way.
Need a book?
I can recommend The Excel 200X Bible
by John Walkenbach, available from both Amazon
and Barnes and Noble (cost $28 plus shipping).
Now, to navigate or move around in this class, there will be a navigation
bar at the side of each page. The main topics of the class are seen there.
These navigation links will be active after you log into the class. When
the class begins you will be provided with the log-in information.
Once you click on a topic, you will be taken to a page about that topic.
What you will find is that each main topic has several topics within it.
I would suggest using bookmarks to mark the area you are working on. If
you bookmark a page, you can return at any time by using the bookmark.
If you need help in setting bookmarks, you can read about bookmarks here.
AND, there is a navigation bar at the bottom of each page which will also
be active after the class begins.
I highly
recommend starting at the beginning and working your way through the class.
You will find that Step 2 uses information from Step 1 and so on.
Let's begin.
