Welcome
to Adobe Acrobat and PDF
Course Outline
This class
is offered by West Valley Community College.
For registration information contact Admissions at West Valley Community
College 408-741-2001 or register online.
After you have enrolled, email
me, unless you have already done so.
This class is conducted entirely online. The class will be open for you
to begin on the first day of school.
What will you learn in this class?
At the end of the class you will be proficient in Adobe Acrobat you will
amaze yourself.
You will do many things. You will start with the basics of Acrobat, move
through those basics ...
You will
have projects with each of the lessons. These projects will demonstrate
your knowledge and understanding of what you have learned. You will email
me, after you have explored a web lesson, for the assignment that goes
with that lesson. When you complete the assignment, email it to me, and
I will check it and offer comments. I am available by email and phone
to help along the way.
Adobe
Acrobat Software vs. Reader
In order to complete this course, you will need to have Adobe
Acrobat Version 8 or 9 loaded onto your computer. Version 7 is similiar and you can try using it understanding that there are some changes. This is different than the
FREE Reader you can download from the Adobe web site. The Reader is used
to view documents only.
Need
a book?
One book I can recommend is Adobe Acrobat X (X is the Version) for Windows & Macintosh
by Jennifer Alspach available from Peachpit
Press (cost=$20) available at the West Valley College
Bookstore or Barnes and Noble. Or you can select any other book you find
compatible with your learning style. Go to the local bookstore to their
computer section, look for Adobe Acrobat section, then thumb through what
may be there. Some people like lots of pictures, some like the basic steps,
some like better explanations.
Navigation: Now, to navigate or move around in this class,
there will be a navigation bar on the left side of each page. As an example,
look to the left of this page. The main topics of the class are seen there.
The navigation links will be active after you log into the class. When
the class begins you will be provided with the log-in information.
Once you click on a topic, you will be taken to a page about that topic.
What you will find is that each main topic has several topics within it.
I would suggest using Bookmarks (Mac) or Favorites
(Windows) to mark the area you are working on. If you bookmark a page,
you can return at any time by using that bookmark. AND, there is a navigation
bar at the bottom of each page which will also be active after the class
begins. Check it out below. You will be able to click on the links and
that will get you to the project.
I highly
recommend starting at the beginning and working your way through the class.
Let's begin.
